Ice skating in Midtown

A few days ago me and Laura went ice skating to Midtown, Roppongi. We couldn’t have chosen the worse day for that though. It was so terribly cold and windy. Later, I had to soak in hot bath for an hour to get warm again. ^-^ But it was fun anyway! There were only a few people there so we had the rink almost entirely to ourselves which was a relief as I am not very maneuvery.. It was only my second time to stand on ice.

Both Laura’s and my mom used to do figure skating when they were young so both of them are amazing on ice. Me, I never had an opportunity to skate till last year when my brother took me to a ski resort in the outskirts of Saint Petersburg.

Midtown ice park is beautiful because of its illumination at night. There are strings of light that fly back and forth in between the trees surrounding the rink.

I managed to skate without falling. I even learned to turn and twirl. The rink is open till the end of February so I should go again and practice. ^-^

One hour was enough for me to get so cold I couldn’t stop coughing. Next time, I will make sure to wear a hat!!! ^-^

Golden week in Tokyo

This year, I stayed in Tokyo for Golden week – a week of consecutive holidays in Japan. It’s a rare occasion to actually go somewhere but with everything happening around recently I just wanted to stay put and enjoy my GW as I used to do when I just came to Tokyo.

One of my favorite activities was spending time in Odaiba on the beach reading book or strolling down the flower fields in front of Palette town.

Odaiba is a large artificial island in Tokyo Bay. It was initially built for defensive purposes but then was turned into a seaport district. Now, it became a major commercial, residential and leisure area.  Odaiba, along with Minato Mirai in Yokohama, are the only two places in the Greater Tokyo Metropolitan area where the seashore is accessible and not blocked by industry and harbor areas.

So, there is an actual beach in Odaiba where you can swim, surf and sunbathe all the while enjoying Tokyo skyline on the horizon and the proximity of everything you might ever need – shops, restaurants, multiplex cinema, amusement park, museums and even a TV station. I used to go there a lot when I was freelancing as a model/extra.

On Wednesday, I met with Laura who was actually working for Fuji TV that day in the evening so we could spend some time together before her job.

Last year, poppy flower fields were relocated farther to the west from the Palette town. It is actually close now to the Museum of Maritime Science which is convenient if you want to later go to Shiokaze park or Odaiba Seaside park (decks beach).

Lilacs, poppies and cornflowers are my favorite flowers so I always take a chance to go see them whenever I can. In Odaiba, you can see both poppies and cornflowers and also Susuki – Japanese pampas grass.

This is a grasshopper Laura caught in Susuki. He was extremely patient while we were taking pictures of him. ^-^ Don’t worry he wasn’t harmed at all!

After the poppy field, we went to Shiokaze park to say Hello to Jenya who checked-in in Facebook saying she was having a BBQ there. ^-^

You can rent all the equipment, tent, table and chairs right there at the beach and it is not crowded at all so Shiokaze park is a really nice place to have BBQ – much better than let’s say Tamagawa river where you have to fight for a spot under the highway bridge.. ^-^

Jenya’s friends were wonderful! They have prepared tons of food which was perfect because me and Laura got tired looking for a place to eat.. Odaiba during GW is crazy! Everywhere are lines of people, even to a food stand, let alone restaurant..

Then, I left the girls in Odaiba and went to meet with Dasha and Inna. Our Facebook group “Stop panic” wrote a support letter to Fukushima workers and it somehow reached NHK who then contacted our group and asked for an interview. So we went to meet with them and other members of the group. We had a tea or what we call in Russia “chaepitie” and talked about the events in Japan after the earthquake and the reason we stayed and made that group.. They cut a lot in the final version but it anyway turned out to be good.

You can see the interview here. It’s in Japanese though..

After the interview, we all went for yakiniku at a local Korean restaurant but since there were just too many of us, they put us into a karaoke next door. ^-^

Tom, who does all the updates on radiation and the situation at Fukushima came specially from Niigata to party with us so of course we had to go to Roppongi. ^-^

Somebody (I am not to point fingers here) got so wasted, we had to drive them home in a taxi to the other part of Tokyo. It was quite the adventure to try and get the correct address out of that person. ^-^ Fortunately, everything turned out to be good. But really, it’s impossible to party with those guys. They have friends everywhere which almost always results in tons of free tequila..

A week later, we had another fundraising party where we auctioned a book of radiopoetry (poems on radiation that talented members of our group came up with) and other funny stuff like t-shirts and coffee mugs with TEPCO logo turned into Cheburashka – CHEBCO. ^-^

We had a public reading of poetry, music performances and other fun stuff. It was a really good party! ^-^

Now, the group is actively organizing deliveries of food and clothes to the shelters and also planning to go out to Tohoku region with an entertainment program for children. If any of you want to participate in charity activities or just want to read the latest information on radiation, look for “Support for people in Japan and please STOP panic!” on Facebook. ^-^

I kissed the girl and I liked it..

As opposed to Katy Perry my kiss may have been accidental and completely unintentional but yeah ok, I did get this much drunk to completely not care anymore. ^-^ What do you really expect – it’s Halloween – a one day of the year where it’s publicly accepted to be out of control. ^-^

Betty G.I. Cat

Ok, this year I was ugly and a victim as in Ugly Betty and a fashion victim. Besides the Ugly Betty costume I also wore purple stockings with red vintage Miu Miu shoes and pink cardigan. I won’t be caught dead in such outfit on a normal occasion so wearing it was a big stretch for me. :) I am actually very proud of myself for going out like that all by myself and all the way to Yokohama where our party began.

Betty Cat

We started drinking at a cozy little bar in Ishikawacho where I met in the order of appearance – an alien, a pregnant crack-whore, a G.I.Jen in zombified state, Lady Gaga, a very naughty cat and a witch in the company of someone bleeding to death.

Betty Gaga

After scaring and being scared all the while drinking we head to Shibuya where we met with Dima dressed as Dima and Serezha dressed as Serezha. ^-^ Yeah, I know! They could have at least swapped!

We tried finding a club to enter but everywhere were lines and lines of people so we took a taxi to Roppongi and went to our haven – a place that can always refuge us Halloween creatures. It’s a small club at the end of the strip where we used to dance salsa post-Sarah & Alberto.

My entourage

It was a “Boom-boom-boom..” moment when I could no longer bear wearing the wig and the poncho so I stripped back to my blonde self. ^-^ A moment later I started to see familiar faces here and there and then another moment later I saw an unfamiliar face right in front of mine. Don’t worry boyfriends! It was a girl – no cheating unless it’s an opposite sex, right? Hehe! Joking!

Gow Lille

Towards the second part of the night Serezha got pretty drunk and was working some girls while some Brazilian boobs…oops? Did I say boobs? I means girls! were working Dima. I have a proof!

Dima and the girls

Then came Gow’s entourage and things heated up. Luckily I was on my 8th Corona and everything was happy and blurry! ^-^ Thanks to a magical ukon that Lille introduced me to I had no hangover the next morning. It’s a thing you drink before drinking to avoid all the “Oops, I did it again” moments. The only downside of it – you stay awake for a long time! On my 40th hour of being awake I was a walking zombie!

Me and Gow

All in all it was a great party! As to which one of these girls I kissed – that’s the secret I’ll never tell! ^-^

Gow’s gig at AI Tokyo

Gow and Michael have finally joined together in an official project called Genez. With their debute this year they are now busy promoting an upcoming album. Their first promo event at AI Tokyo was super cool. Gow went through a dramatic makeover cutting her long tresses  into Rihanna style short one sided bob – looks really sexy. She was also wearing a dress and heels – a totally new look for her. I thought she looks much more sophisticated that way (yes, girl you do).  The new album is in J-hip-hop style with elements of enka, pop and reggae. I really enjoyed watching them together, they perform in an absolute sync and I really liked that. The songs are not completed yet so I can’t wait to hear the rest.

AI Tokyo

After event we went out for some dancing. Here are the pics! :)

Strawberry daiquiri

The 31st of October has started pretty spooky to me with a project deadline at 7PM and tons of tasks to get done in between 3 horrifying regular meetings where you can play games on ipod and noone gives a damn but which you cant skip or else.. So I was very frustrated when after days of hard work and 5 minutes before I was to leave for the party my boss has asked me to do the dirty job as well – match each image to its Japanese name and file name and save each of them on server. So it took me another hour which blew my chances to do the hair and makeup for the party. I ended up being hour and a half late but luckily I made it and I had a great time!

Garthe & Lille

Every year my gals are having different costumes so it’s always fun to see who’s wearing what. Dalrae, Heijin and me went costumer shopping on thursday. Big advice – never buy a costume in Japanese store. You can’t try it on and it costs 100$+ without accessories. I checked the same costumes on ebay and guess what, they don’t even cost 20$ plus the variety is ridiculous.

Heijin and me

Anyway, Dalrae was picking sexy nurse costumes – a real nightmare for her boyfriend who was trying to persuade her to go with Alice in wonderland or Red riding hood. Last time I saw them, they were buying doctor and nurse sets but then they came dressed as red cupid and a dracula so dunno what happened there….^-^ They looked hot though!

I was dressed as a maid, serving everyone and trying to dust off my sluttish friends ( didn’t work..). ^-^ I had my halloween pet Mr. Muffins with me but traded it off to Lille for a neon wrist band. ^-^

Chie’s performance at Edge

My friend Chie performs with her band “Believe” twice a year in Roppongi and I always try to go and see them because being successful IT interpreneurs they have no need in releasing their CD so seeing them live is the only chance to hear their music which is great! There are couple of songs that can truly become hits, I really love them. Chie sings in husky voice and even with cold like this time it was so clear and beautiful. She used to work in my company and people would go to karaoke after corporate drinking just to hear her sing. She is the reason I stopped singing because hearing me after her is just a slap in the face and in some cases a kick in the guts. ^-^
